About

I’m Dennis Oliver. I was born and raised in a small town in Southern Illinois, but haven’t lived there for a long, long time: I left Illinois in the early 1970s, and since that time have lived and worked in Texas, Oklahoma, California, and Oregon before ending up in Phoenix, AZ just over 18 years ago. I’ve been professionally involved in education since the late 1960s—first (briefly) in Music, then (since leaving Illinois for Texas) in ESL and Developmental English. In these fields, I’ve worked in teaching, teacher training, materials development, textbook editing, and administration. I’ve been particularly interested in computer-mediated teaching and learning and online materials development since the mid 1990s, and I’ve also become committed to intercultural collaborative projects for the last three or four years.

What a pleasure it was to hear from you! Thanks very much for your kind words.

I was pleased to comment on your very fine blog: keep up the good work! I’m glad we’ve established a connection, and I also hope we will keep in touch.

A friend and colleague who is Portuguese but is currently living and working in England always liked the stories, reflections, and personal anecdotes that popped up during Skype conversations and, at times, in online presentations, and she encouraged me to start a blog that focused on these areas. Eventually I did that with “Memories and Musings.” I began fairly actively, but then other projects got in the way, and, as you can see, I haven’t added anything new here for a while. I have several ideas for reflections and stories, however, and will be adding other entries soon.

I’m glad we’re in touch, Nadia, and can only say that you’ve expanded my horizons, too!

      Very best wishes—

      Dennis

I thought I’d responded to this long ago, but obviously I didn’t.

Thank you for your very kind words. Whatever “shining” I do is merely the reflection of the amazing accomplishments friends like you: I’m truly blessed by our connection.

    Do coração,

    Dennis
